“History Lovers Club” on Twitter posted the following photo with caption: “Carving eye on Mount Rushmore 1930s”
This photograph by Charles D’Emery is real, but it was staged. Source: National Park Service (NPS) website.
Correct description via Alamy: “Staged photo of worker hanging from Jefferson’s eye lid on Mount Rushmore. Ca. 1934”
If a history account has 119 thousand followers, I would expect they would check the facts and also remember attribution. Note that this “History Lovers Club” is basically just a picture spam account.
